Square Dance Lessons
Are you interested in learning how to Square Dance?
We hope so!
In Square Dancing eight people form a Square. A caller sings out the calls to music and the dancers perform the calls. All eight dancers work together as a team to end up in the right place at the end.
Before a person can become a Square Dancer, they must take Lessons to learn and practice the calls. Once they learn a certain number of calls, they can attend a dance and enjoy the fun.
Our program starts with a Free “Introduction to Square Dance” Event, where we explain Square Dancing, demonstrate a Dance, and get you involved in a Dance as a taste of what you will learn. The program will be fully explained to attendees at this event.
Our next Lessons Intro event is currently scheduled for Sunday September 10, 2023. Doors open at 6:00 PM. Dancing starts at 6:30 PM and lasts for about 2 hours. It is held at the Baker Community Center, 101 South Second Street, (Rt. 31), St. Charles, Illinois. This is one block South of Rt. 64.
There have been many changes throughout the years in Square Dancing. Both Clothing and Music have been modernized.
Today’s Square Dancing is Not your Grandparents Square Dance. Nor is it like the Square Dance class you took in Middle School. So come out and try it.
- If you wish more information or want to register for the free Intro event, please contact our Lessons Coordinators:

Round Dance Lessons
Most people know what Square Dancing is.
But do you know what Round Dancing is?
Round Dancing is a form of ballroom dancing - Waltz, Foxtrot, Two-Step, Cha-Cha, Rumba and more. The steps for each dance have been choreographed to the music. A “Cuer” calls out the steps and the couple dances them. All the couples dance in a large circle going around the room, thus providing all the couples plenty of space to dance the cues. Dancers learn the steps and rhythms for each style of dance.
Many Square Dance Clubs, including Fox Valley Mixers, have Round Dancing at their Club Dances.
Lessons are needed to learn the steps to the various songs. We have sponsored lessons for Round Dancing for a number of years however we do not currently have a class.
- If you are interested in Round Dance lessons or are seeking additional information please contact our Lessons Coordinators:
- Chuck or Bobbi at 847-841-1006 or kcdbc@aol.com
